Exhibition // Caskia @GARDENING MARS/DISSIDENT GARDENS – Het Nieuwe Instituut – Rotterdam (NL)

The larger exhibition Dissident Gardens (HNI – Gallery 1) will include 4 different chapters, one of which will be Gardening Mars, developed under the curation of Klaas Kuitenbrouwer.

Working on the fine balance between actual colonisation efforts and speculation, Gardening Mars will present various instruments and attributes that are used (on Earth) to simulate and to imagine life on Mars,  focusing on four different frameworks that can be identified as part of the current practice of terraforming.

CASKIA – Growing a Mars Boot will be one of the projects exhibited as part of Gardening Mars.
The project is the result of a close collaboration between Officina Corpuscoli and OurOwnSkin.

CASKIA was developed under commission by The Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) Senior Curator, Paola Antonelli, and was earlier premiered as part of the exhibition “Items: Is Fashion Modern?”.

CASKIA rethinks and questions through a designer lens, our 21st century material culture, its values and the ongoing challenges and perspectives of living on Mars.
